Reading Group resource on Poetry Library website | 13-Feb-13
On Monday 11 February 2013, to mark the 50th anniversary of the death of Sylvia Plath, the Poetry Library held a Book Club looking at five of Plath's poems. You can find the outline and questions we used for this Book Club on our website here:
The Poetry Library Book Club has been running since 2010. As well as looking at the work of individual poets including Derek Mahon, Tomas Tranströmer, Jo Shapcott, Jackie Kay's The Adoption Papers (Bloodaxe Books, 1991) and Carol Ann Duffy's Love Poems (Picador, 2010), we have also looked at anthologies including The Poetry of Birds (edited by Simon Armitage and Tim Dee --Viking/Penguin, 2009) The World Record : international voices from Southbank Centre's Poetry Parnassus (edited by Neil Astley and Anna Selby -- Bloodaxe Books, 2012) and Dark matter : poems of space (edited by Maurice Riordan and Jocelyn Bell Burnell -- Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, 2008).
All of the plans for these Book Clubs, which include details of the poems we looked along with questions, can be found on the Poetry Library website here:
Details of future Poetry Library Book Clubs will be advertised on the Southbank Centre website. Our next Book Club is Sam Riviere's 81 Austerities (Faber and Faber, 2012) on 22 April 2013. Free tickets can be booked here:
