NATIONAL POETRY LIBRARY: South Bank Poetry Tour

Date: Wednesday 20 September
Time: 6pm
Price: £8.50 + £2.50 booking fee
Start point: The National Poetry Library, Royal Festival Hall, Southbank Centre

Seek out centuries of poetic activity in the South Bank, with Poetry Librarian and author of Real South Bank, Chris McCabe.

The tour begins at The National Poetry Library with an overview of the collections.

Discover the hidden poems written into the pavements in front of Royal Festival Hall and Chris gives a sense of the building as major site of poetic activity.

Learn more about the notorious French poet Arthur Rimbaud, who lived on nearby Stamford Street in the 1870s. Hear a poetic audio accompaniment by poet Tom Chivers whilst walking to the site of William Blake’s house on Hercules Road. The tour ends on Jubilee Gardens where the Rain of Poems took place in 2012, before returning to the library for a chance to see some of the rare gems from the collection.
